Inspiring future generations to join the world of construction

Construction is an industry comprised of a huge variety of skill sets and disciplines and we believe that part of our role is to ignite, nurture and support new and existing talent, bringing the very best into our sector. With the current national skills gap in construction, Kaicer is actively encouraging work placements and modern apprenticeships in order to inspire and develop talent. What could be better than being given a real-life insight into your sector of choice? It offers a fantastic opportunity to understand the industry and ultimately, ensure that a new generation of recruits enters the world of construction with their eyes open, ready to begin their journey.

Alongside the technical theory delivered by the local education facilities, our apprentices learn from the skilled team members they shadow and are able to apply the knowledge gained in reality. Working closely with Eastleigh College, our Business Systems Trainer, Rod Lewis welcomes students in a mission to grow and sustain talent at Kaicer. Kaicer has a very supportive and progressive culture which offers great variety in the projects worked upon. Students on work experience placements visit departments across the business in order to achieve a real understanding of the differing functions and how they work cohesively to deliver projects to our clients.

Turning theory into practice

Matt Forshaw, is currently a trainee designer having joined Kaicer in 2016 whilst studying his Level 3 BTEC in Construction Management in the Built Environment. Throughout his two years at Kaicer, Matt has learnt invaluable professional skills. Matt commented;

“My experience within Kaicer has undoubtedly given me a greater understanding of the theory taught at college. I’ve been able to experience how the technical elements relate to the practice, allowing me to appreciate the skills required to make projects a success.”

With continued support, Matt is studying for his HNC Level 4 whilst working as part of the design team.

Our talent pool continues to develop with a number of graduates and trainees joining the Kaicer team recently. We relish the opportunity to welcome students on placements, offering them a glimpse into our culture and the opportunities we offer.

Inspiring Students and future apprentices

This Summer Kaicer welcomed Mirriam Kantiki to participate in our work placement programme as part of her NVQ studies at Eastleigh College. Mirriam is passionate about our sector and fully embraced the opportunity to learn on the job during her time with us. Hosted by our design team, Mirriam settled in quickly, upskilling her Auto Cad skills in the workplace. During her placement Mirriam also spent time within various departments where she was offered a detailed understanding of our business processes and systems.

The highlight of Mirriam’s week was a site visit to Slough where Michael Hill, Site manager, and the team introduced her to the sharp end of the business. Mirriam studied the plans onsite, saw the construction process and received a site tour. Seeing the site operations team in action allowed Mirriam to see how our designs become reality through the installation of the final envelope solution.

If you’d like to find out more about undertaking a work placement at Kaicer, please contact our HR department for further information or an informal chat.
